I love a neutral, basic sweater as much as the next person, but winter can get dreary and sometimes you just want to have a little fun! There are so many ways to dress up and dress down a sweater-they go with jeans, leggings, business pants, shorts, skirts, and the list goes on. However, I thought I’d focus on how versatile sweaters can be in design, styling, and patterns to create a unique look that will make your friends and strangers say “Wow, where did you get that?!”
First, I’m linking my outfit below! My sweater is from Revolve and I was gravitating towards it because of the exposed shoulders and back. The cut-outs in the pattern are so unique and different, but the turtleneck and neutral white color help keep the sweater grounded enough to wear in every day life! I call this my “party in the back, business in the front sweater” and I styled it with simple black jeans and some of my favorite cheetah booties.
Make sure to grab a strapless bra for this sweater! There are two items I couldn’t link-my necklace and crossbody bag. The necklace is from the online boutique Willow Park, and the bag is an older Tory Burch style called the Amanda.
I love a front tuck (also called a French tuck) and it works perfectly with this sweater. You can also go for a more relaxed look with no tuck. It fits true to size and isn’t too long or too cropped-so this sweater would work with most all pants and skirts!
So, now let’s get to some other sweaters that can elevate your winter fashion style!
I REALLY love cut outs in a sweater design (for example, my top above has cutouts on the shoulders and back). I’ve linked sweaters below that have cut outs on the shoulder, above the chest, and on the back! It is such a fun detail and can even make your look a bit more daring or sexy for a date or fun event. These sweaters are from a mix of stores at differing price points. However, I really love Revolve’s selection for sweaters like this. They have nailed sweater sophistication mixed with sexy styling changes.
If you’re not a huge fan of cut outs, have no fear! Another favorite of mine are sweaters with fun patterns! They don’t necessarily have to be full of color to make you stand out. Most of my picks below are neutral and would work at a party or the office. I particularly love the chartreuse sweater with the knitted design and scalloped trim. It is rare to see a shirt with a decorated trim! I also love the fringe and the modern color designs on the other sweaters too.
Another great option is to play with the sleeves and the length to create a whole new look! I absolutely love the option with the organza sleeves. It looks so high fashion and I might have to get this one for myself! I also really like the option that drapes in front to make the back longer (almost like a long cardigan). Since I am pretty petite (5’3″) I usually stay away from styles like this because I feel that it makes me look shorter. But I really like this look!
The last look I am obsessed with is rocking a delicate cut along the chest to show off your decolletage. It works in any setting and is so beautiful and feminine. I really like all of these styles because one shows a hint of skin on one shoulder, one is off the shoulder (my favorite), and the other is more of a square cut that dips lower for a flattering fit.
Which is your favorite?! I’d love to know if you like any of these “not your average” winter sweaters and which ones you gravitate towards!
