The Best Candles to Buy this Season

It’s hard for me to describe how much I love candles. To me, there is nothing better than reading or relaxing at home with a new or favorite candle. The smell calms my mood and makes our loft feel more homey (is this a real word?)

It;s rare that I’m home without a candle lit, so I thought I’d do a rundown of my favorite candles that you can enjoy for the New Year! If you prefer diffusers or essential oils, I’ve linked any scents that have these options.

Anthropologie is my favorite place to buy candles. They have sizes for all budgets and have an amazing variety of scents. Diptyque is another cult candle favorite. FYI: my father-in-law dislikes candles but LOVES a candle from Diptyque.

TOP: Pamjora Lychee by Voluspa, Fir and Firewood by Capri Blue BOTTOM: Volcano by Capri Blue in two different jar patterns (classic and holiday)

DRUMROLL PLEASE…my #1 favorite candle is Volcano by Capri Blue. I always buy this Capri Blue candle from Anthropologie, but they are available at many stores and boutiques. This smell is PERFECT to me-it smells fruity, fresh, and feminine. It has hints of oranges, lemons, and limes and isn’t overly strong. This is my “GO TO” candle.

Not to mention, the glass jars are beautiful and come in a variety of colors and sizes. If you want to dip your toe into the Volcano pool, check out the mini candles. This also come in HUGE size that would probably last 6 months to a year, even in my home! I’ve linked all sizes below.

Another great thing about Volcano is that it is so popular, it comes in votives (no glass jar) and other items from soaps and hand creams to diffusers and essential oils. The room spray is one of my favorites to use before I have company or if I just burnt dinner and need a scent refresh!

My favorite holiday candle is Capri Blue’s Fir and Firewood. It smells like a Christmas tree, so I light this all winter-especially because we have a faux tree! It has hints of apple, clove, fir, pine needle, white birch, cedar, vetiver, and musk, so it smells a little woodsy too. It is not overly sweet or strong. This comes in multiple sizes and an essential oil option.

Voluspa is also an amazing candle brand (also found at Anthropologie and boutiques). Their glass jars are GORGEOUS and my favorite scent is Panjora Lychee. This scent has citrus-tinged blend of cassis and Asian pear and it smells fruity and feminine. I love this color of glass jar (a light pink) and I’ve also purchased the diffuser. The perfect candle to light if you’re hanging with the girls!

I buy candles from Diptyque when I want to treat myself. These are a bit more expensive by size, but worth every penny if you want to invest in a luxury French candle. To be honest, I had seen them online and on social media and loved the clean look of the label, but I had never planned on buying until I saw a Diptyque store up the street from our old apartment in Chicago. I was hooked after that day!

The most popular scent at Diptyque is Baies, and surprise, it is my favorite too! This is a candle you can light with people around who don’t usually love candles (aka my father-in-law). It has hints of roses and blackcurrant berries. It smells floral and fruity but it’s muted at the same time. I don’t know how to explain it, but the scent almost feels natural. It is a strong candle, but it’s not overwhelming at all.

The great thing is that this scent comes in many sizes and also non-candle options. If you want to test this scent, definitely start with the mini option. The large size is definitely too high for my candle budget, but it would last a LONG time. I’ve linked the options below-the standard or mini candles are my favorite (first two photos), but I’d also love to try the room spray and diffuser!

I recently decided to try some new Diptyque scents. My candle loving husband wanted something more woodsy and manly, and I wanted something more feminine (Baies feels neutral between us both). My husband chose Narguile, which has a mix of honey, tobacco, and spices. This reminds me of a scent that should be at a bourbon distillery or cigar bar, but it is light enough that it can be a crowd favorite. I chose Tuberuse, which literally smells like you’re walking in a flower garden. It is my new favorite scent and it just feels clean, simple and regal all at the same time!

I hope this candle review was helpful. If any of these candles are more than you’d prefer to spend, have no fear! I am currently creating a Part II version with candles from Target, Wal-Mart, and TJMaxx. Check back on my blog or sign up for an e-mail newsletter to see my picks!
