I know Valentine’s Day is a very dividing holiday because some people think it’s cheesy and “invented by greeting card companies”, and others see it as just another chance to celebrate with their significant other. I fall somewhere in the middle! I’ll take any excuse to dress up and go to dinner with my husband, but I also know I can do that any day of the year, not just because it’s Valentine’s Day. When I was single, I REALLY didn’t like the holiday because I felt left out and as if I was the only single person I knew.
If you feel that way, trust me that it’s not the case! Looking back, I realize how silly it was to compare my love life to anyone else’s. We all have different paths and different timing and there are so many ways to enjoy the holiday if you don’t have a Valentine.
One of my favorite “single” things to do on Valentine’s Day was to go shopping or go to the spa to treat myself. In the past few years, I’ve done a Galentine’s Day dinner with my girlfriends and it is SO much fun! You can embrace the holiday and get each other candy or little Valentine cards, or rebel and decide that it will be “the holiday that will not be named” and go out to dinner and grab (a lot of) drinks 🙂
I’m going to admit that I love wearing red and pink together, and I’m glad it’s 100% acceptable for this holiday. I had been eyeing this sweater for a long time. I loved the light pink color and the puffy sleeves, and I thought it would make a statement. These jeans are my favorite ones from Abercrombie. Yes, they are skinny jeans, and I can’t deal with the fact that Gen-Z has declared them as out of style hahaha. I bought heart balloons too because they are so cute and fun-I got these for less than $15 at Party City!
I’ve linked all of the items in my outfit below! The sweater is true to size-I am wearing an XS. I’m wearing a 26 in the Abercrombie jeans, and I love these because they are stretchy and not stiff! This necklace is my favorite and reminds me so much of Alexis on Schitt’s Creek LOL. I can’t find these red tassel earrings anywhere online, but they were from the Sugarfix by Target collection.
I also found this super cute neutral sweater at Banana Republic! I think this is great if you aren’t in love with the loud colors, like pink and red, but still want to look “festive”! I styled it with black Aritzia pants and Target heels and I thought it was the perfect look for the office. This Lele Sadoughi headband was a splurge because I really was having trouble finding a basic black leather headband that wasn’t overly “fake” looking, and I have to say it is the most comfortable headband I’ve ever worn!
I’m usually not a huge fan of red roses, but sometimes I buy them this time of year. I usually like pink or white flowers better (like peonies, white roses, garden roses) or even blue, like hydrangeas. They remind me of my favorite vacation spot, Martha’s Vineyard! I’m linking everything in this outfit below 🙂 Aritzia doesn’t allow links, so if you love these pants, they are the Babaton Conan style. The sweater is true to size, I ordered an XSP.
Now, I’m going to give you some ideas on what to wear for Valentine’s Day if you are still unsure! Since this still feels like an extension of 2020, I’m starting with adorable pajamas because a lot of us (including me) will be celebrating at home, and of course we still want to look cute and feel great. Raise your hand if you’re joining me!
I’m starting with the splurge outfits I love from Revolve. These pajamas are above $100, but some of us love to invest in comfortable sets that you are sleeping and lounging in. I’m admittedly not that person, as I usually sleep in an old school tshirt and Nike shorts or pants hahaha. Fancy huh?!
The below sets are much more affordable (two are $15, a steal) and are SO cute! I love the hearts and colors on all of these.
Maybe you’re planning on running errands or having a casual get together without wearing anything fancy. I searched high and low for the cutest shirts and sweaters you can wear (and not just on February 14th). These are all so cute and are under $100, with most priced under $40. I’ve wanted the knitted heart sweater from Chicwish for SO long and I think I’m finally going to buy it!
My go-to when I want to get a little dressed up is to wear a skirt with a simple top. I love these skirts I found and I might buy all of them! Two of the skirts are super affordable (under $25) from Boohoo and Target. I love the pink and red heart design and the simplicity of the red satin skirt. The other two are a little pricier ($100 or more). The Anthropologie pink tulle skirt is for the frilly, romantic woman and the neutral heart skirt is so cute for someone who has a classic style.
Last but not least, I’m linking dresses for those of you who are going ALL OUT this weekend. You don’t even have to go out to get all dressed up-you can have a dinner party at home! I think I’ll be going a little more casual this year, but I do love the romantic and glitzy looks for Valentine’s Day. Here are some dresses that I love. My favorite is the first dress from Etsy-HOW FUN! I also love the simple and sleek red dresses, and the second dress has a retro/70’s vibe to me.
I hope I helped you figure out some Valentine’s Day outfit ideas, whether you plan on spending the day at home or getting fancy for a dinner date. Remember: don’t get down, even for a second, if you don’t have plans or a significant other! Valentine’s Day reminds me of New Years Eve…you may have a grand idea of how the holiday will go, or think “next year’s holiday will be different”, but it really is just another day in a year where so much can change. Have an awesome weekend everyone 🙂
