I’m not going to lie, I have ALWAYS loved a statement sleeve! Puffy sleeves, lace sleeves, dolman sleeves, cape sleeves, and the list goes on 🙂
Does this trend turn you off because of the 80’s puff sleeve or the leg-of-mutton sleeves that all of our moms chose for their wedding dress? I get it, I do. But trust me, certain sleeves can elevate your look and you can do this in a budget conscious way. I’m sure some of these will look “dated” in a few decades, but for now they are all the rage!
For example, I wore a long sleeve lace and crepe dress on my wedding day. It’s a very classic look, but it hasn’t always been “on trend”. In the 1950s, strapless dresses were the hot new style. It was considered risque then, but it’s still pretty popular now! In the 1970s and 80s, BIG sleeves were in (as we can all see in our parents wedding album). Sleeves didn’t come back in big way until the past 10 years or so (shoutout to Kate Middleton)! Fashion is cyclical, and we are seeing the “puffy sleeve look” becoming popular now in casualwear.
The main reason I love this Mara Hoffman dress (besides the pattern) are the kimono/dolman sleeves! You know those days when you get dressed, look in the mirror, and decide you are FEELING yourself?! It’s impossible to not have a day like this when wearing this dress!
I can’t find a link to purchase the dress, but the good news is that is available on Rent the Runway! It is called the Leila dress by Mara Hoffman.
I’ve posted some of my favorite dresses, and shirts with statement sleeves, as well as my shoes and earrings from my outfit!
